IMA Webinar Broadcast: The Pursuit of National Security – Partnerships Required

The Colorado/Wyoming InfraGard Chapter is hosting a Counterintelligence Threat training webinar highlighting the importance of partnerships between the public and private sectors in the pursuit of national security through counterintelligence.

1. Overview of FBI’s Counterintelligence Program

2. Interview with Gary Hart – After serving as a U.S. Senator from 1975-87, Gary Hart turned his attention to national security issues, serving as Co-Chair of the U.S. Commission on National Security/21st Century later known as “Hart-Rudman”. The commission recommended significant changes to the structure of national security including the creation of an organization called “Homeland Security” prior to the attack on 9/11. Discussion will include the 25-year strategy put in place and how it played out as well as some of Senator Hart’s experiences in working with Russia.

3. Panel Discussion: Understanding and Preparing for Russia – Mandiant will cover the current Russian cyber threat environment including background on threat actors based in Russia and some of their current attack methods. DHS CISA will discuss their “Shields Up” campaign and how organizations should prepare for attacks.

4. FBI presentation on the China Threat to Academia – Provides an overview of the threat and how China exploits the open and collaborative academic environment through an eye-opening case study.

Objectives:
Upon completion of this webinar, the attendee will gain awareness and understanding of the:
1. FBI Counterintelligence Program;
2. Threats posed by Russia and China; and
3. Offerings from DHS CISA to organizations to help them prepare for cybersecurity attacks.

Senator Hart served as U.S. senator from Colorado (1975–87). In 1988, he co-chaired the U.S. Commission on Nat’l Security/21st Century later known as “Hart-Rudman” which recommended creation of “Homeland Security” prior to attack on 9/11.
