This event is presented by Los Angeles Infragard and the FBI.
Course Description: Special investigations require special skills, knowledge, or techniques to successfully complete. FBI Special Agents will provide a background on their special team and present on some of their unique case studies.
The investigating Special Agent will provide a case briefing about the compromise of Ring Doorbell cameras and their use in swatting incidents around the country. Takeaways will include lessons learned from the case including tips to keep your online information safe.
The Art Crime Team will present interesting case studies, as well as providing information on the team’s history and mission. This includes bringing attention to stolen masterworks and elicit the public’s help in recovering them and bringing the thieves to justice.
Investigative Genetic Genealogy
Investigative Genetic Genealogy (IGG) is a cutting-edge technique that allows investigators the ability to identify suspects and victims of murder and sexual assault using DNA left at the crime scene. An FBI Special Agent skilled in this technique will present on the technique, as well as provide a case study on the Golden State Killer, which pioneered IGG.
Underwater Search & Rescue
The Underwater Search and Evidence Response Team will provide information on the program’s mission, capabilities, and equipment. Additionally, recent case examples involving notable and unusual underwater evidence collection methods will be discussed.
